A former aide to two New York governors, Andrew Cuomo and David Paterson, was recently charged with acting as an agent of the Chinese government. The aide, identified as Chunlin "Allen" Zhong, was accused of engaging in clandestine activities to further the interests of China within the United States without notifying U.S. authorities, as required by law.

Linda Sun, a former aide to New York Governor Kathy Hochul and ex-Governor Andrew Cuomo, has been charged with acting as an agent for the Chinese government.

The charges include violating the Foreign Agents Registrations Act, visa fraud, alien smuggling, and money laundering conspiracy. Her husband, Chris Hu, faces charges related to money laundering and bank fraud.

Federal prosecutors allege that Sun acted as an undisclosed agent of the Chinese government, using her position to further the interests of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) while her husband facilitated the transfer of kickbacks for personal gain. The charges were brought to light following a federal raid on their Long Island home in July 2024.

Sun and Hu both pleaded not guilty in court, with Sun's bond set at $1.5 million and Hu's at $500,000. The case is significant as it highlights concerns over foreign influence in U.S. politics, particularly with regard to China's involvement. Their next court date is scheduled for September 25, 2024.
