Google recently celebrated the 2024 Paris Paralympics with a special Doodle dedicated to wheelchair tennis. The lively and imaginative artwork features two animated birds playing tennis in wheelchairs, set against the backdrop of a pristine Parisian garden, such as the Jardin du Palais Royal or Jardin des Tuileries. Accompanying the Doodle, Google noted, “Ace attitudes and stellar serves. Wheelchair Tennis starts today at Stade Roland-Garros!” on its official Google Doodles page.

The wheelchair tennis events at the 2024 Summer Paralympics in Paris began on August 30 and will conclude on September 7 at the Roland Garros Stadium, a venue renowned for its iconic clay courts. The competition features singles and doubles matches across three categories: men’s, women’s, and quads.

On Sunday, several top players, including Alfie Hewett (Great Britain), Martin De La Puente (Spain), Todiko Oda (Japan), and Gustavo Fernandez (Argentina), secured spots in the last 16, showcasing their diverse playing styles and competitive spirit.

Wheelchair tennis, first introduced at the Barcelona Paralympic Games in 1992, has become a staple at all four Grand Slam tournaments. According to the International Tennis Federation (ITF), the Wheelchair Tennis Tour now features over 150 events worldwide.

The sport is divided into two classifications:

- **The Open Class:** For athletes with a permanent impairment of one or both legs but normal arm function.

- **The Quad Class:** For athletes with impairments affecting the playing arm, which impacts their ability to handle the racquet and manage the wheelchair.

This Google Doodle not only highlights the sport’s global appeal but also celebrates the determination and resilience of the athletes competing in the wheelchair tennis events at the Paralympics.
