Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill was pulled over, detained, and briefly handcuffed by police while driving to today’s game against the Jaguars. Despite the incident, Hill is still expected to play.
According to ESPN, Hill was stopped for speeding, engaged in a verbal altercation with the officer, and was subsequently ordered out of his vehicle, handcuffed, and cited for reckless driving.
In a statement, the Dolphins said, "This morning, WR Tyreek Hill was pulled over for a traffic incident about one block from the stadium and briefly detained by police. He has since been released. Several teammates witnessed the situation and stopped to offer support. Tyreek and all other players involved have safely arrived at the stadium and will be available for today’s game."
ESPN also reported that Hill's agent, Drew Rosenhaus, was with him in the car during the stop.
This incident brings to mind golfer Scottie Scheffler's arrest before the PGA Championship in May, where he was stopped for a moving violation but later had the charges dropped. Like Scheffler, Hill will aim to put the incident behind him quickly.
